If you have noticed, I have been trying to focus on shooting BW, just to challenge myself, but had to leave this one color. I shot this today for a returning client and LOVE them. This was a reschedule because of weather and this day couldn't have been more perfect and beautiful. I was shooting her sweaters and coats for her boutique and we wanted a holiday/wintery feel. Okay so not ironing itself, but the fact that I am ironing because Justin has a job. That I am very grateful for. All the ironing as a kid has paid off, although I still do not agree with ironing jeans until the crease cuts your finger. That still seems wrong, but I did do my chores.

Today is one of my sister's birthday's and it made me think of my relationships with each one. I am grateful for them and all they add to my life. This includes my sisters-in-law. ....my eyes.

That I can see and take in all the beauty of the world and be lucky enough to capture portions of it forever with my camera. I had an eye appointment today and as the Optometrist told me one eye got worse, I proceeded to complain about how I hate my coke bottle glasses and how the enlarge my eyes so I look all googly-eyed and that contacts dry my eyes out and haven't been able to wear them for several years. It took a second, but then I realized I had it all wrong. I am thankful that I CAN see and that they can make corrective lens to help me to see better and I can choose from an array of styles for fun. As well as glasses, I GET to try contacts again to see if I can find a good fit. He was nice to put up with my rant and be concerned to help me find comfortable contact lens. How THANKFUL I am I that I can see the world around me so beautifully with or without glasses.

This is my friends littlest. She is hugging a bear that when you squeeze the arm it says a sweet message in her mother's voice. As all three played the messages for me to hear, I was overwhelmed with emotion. They all loved their own sweet message that their animal spoke to them and were anxious to share because it was their own special message. I was tending her children as she went in for pre-op to remove a tumor from her brain. I am thankful for her will and determination that she will continue to be here for her children and her ability to teach me without knowing it. She has since had the operation and is recovering well. All my love and prayers to you and your family Amy.

....the wonderful opportunity I have to be a woman and mother.

The human body amazes me. That a woman and man can create a life and the body can grow in the mother and that she can later sustain his life outside the womb. I just love it! Nursing has always been a wonderful bonding experience for me and my kids. Only I can provide that for them and only I can experience this bond. I wanted to capture my feelings on nursing and knowing that Eli was slowly weaning himself, I knew I had to get it soon. As it turns out, this picture is the very last time I nursed him and will probably ever nurse. I set up the shot and asked Sophie to stand on the couch and take a picture. It was intended to be for my own memory to look back on, but was amazed at how she captured the exact emotion for me so I had to share. I hope you recieve it the way it was meant. It has been difficult to move on from this stage in raising my children. I am having difficulty expressing it, but I look at the picture and it says it all. Him looking up at me as I hold his hand, the sweet tenderness of that connection. Words, in this case, cannot express, but a photo can.

...for this handsome boy who introduced me to motherhood.
He has taught me how to be a mother and I will continue learning as he grows and we experience things together. He gives the best hugs and still love to show me affection. His sweet side is so tender and I love hearing the stories he thinks up. He is such a sweet teacher and brother and a good example of a great kid.

His latest funny.....As they were getting ready for school he had cut his finger and sent Leena to get a band aid. He then comes up to me and says he may need stitches. He told me how he did it and proceeds to say that he thought he was going to bleed to death but then he remembered how kids have more blood than adults and figured he would be fine but then thought he was going to loose his finger. Now, I know he can be dramatic as it runs in the genes, but I pulled off the band aid and couldn't help but laugh. It looked no worse than a paper cut (no dramatization there). Such a funny kid with a wild imagination. I guess he had been crying and worrying so much. I felt bad for the poor guy having to suffer so for literally nothing.

I am attempting to do similar to what I did last year during this thankful time. I may not have taken the picture that day, but it is my feelings associated with pictures. We had a fun vintage wedding dress shoot with Sophie and my SIL, Jillian. Just for kicks and giggles. She got to wear her Grandmother's wedding dress and Sophie played dress up with her. May be great for him, but exhausting for me. Oh, he can climb the stairs it's the coming down that's tricky. This will be a long couple of months till he gets it down. It doesn't help that the stairs are slippery wood. I may need someone to teach me since I've slipped down them myself a few times.

Annual Bear Lake Trip

This is the trip I look forward to each year. I love it up there and love to sit on the beach with my feet in the warm sand, play in the water, and build sand castles with the kids.

This was an ice cave we got to explore. Last time we went there wasn't any room to climb down in it, but it was so fun to explore the cave. My SIL held a light behind this ice formation. Here is to next years adventure to Bear Lake.

So this is what happens when your baby's body decides it doesn't like penicillin. We like to call him our cheetah baby. Sitting and holding him was all I wanted to do. It hurt me just to look at him. Rsv twice, bronchitis, and his third ear infection that turned into an allergic reaction.....I think he is tired of it and so am I. I just want my happy lovey baby to stay healthy.

Busy Week

We had a full week of family visiting, birthdays, and an out of town friend lunch. I am very terrible about remembering my camera, strange I know. So I didn't actually take this picture, my Dad did. I love her soft expression and the back light. He was in town visiting and we all went to see Justin race in the mid-week mountain bike race and he shot this of Sophie with his point and shoot. It is because of him that I am into photography at all. He got the shutter-bug from his dad who was an excellent photographer. He did weddings and everything. One of my favorite photographs that I have hanging in my house, my grandpa took. So in 1996 my Dad sent me an old Exacta film camera and that is where it began. I took a couple photography classes and darkroom classes and I was hooked. I always admired my Dad's knowledge of light and capture and enjoy our frequent discussions on the topic. I had a love for creating in darkroom and worked at a one-hour lab in Arkansas and came here and worked at custom lab called Replicolor. I loved taking people's negatives and making them look their absolute best so when I embraced the digital era, it was natural for me to love creating beauty in photoshop. So thank you Dad for your encouragement and support and introducing me to the beauty of photography.

We had Auntie Maria cut her hair to make it more manageable since she refuses to let me put cute piggies and such in her hair. I love the bob. Thanks Maria!!!

My Mom made it into town for a visit and had to have Sophie take our picture. I was looking back at old photos and realized there were about 4 pictures of me and my mom together. You see, she hates her picture taken and I am becoming more adamant about her being in pictures. I also wanted to take her picture because she has lost 65 pounds and I am so proud of her. She looks beautiful!! I am trying to be more aware of making sure I get on the other side of the lens with my kiddos. Sophie did great and it was fun to have my mom around for a week.

I was trying to make the best of the rainy weather so I took my Sophie out on her 5 year photo shoot. She has been saying for months that she will be able to do this or that when she turns five. So can I tell you how sick I am of someone being sick. Daughter is taking another round of antibiotics to clear up an ear infection that won't go away. Baby has had RSV twice and can't seem to get the gunk out all the way. It's a love hate relationship with the sucker. He hates every second of it, but it sure cleans his airways out. Now I am trying to recover from the flu. Never actually had it and I must say the shiny end of a pistol never looked so relieving.

Leena is going to be 7 in a couple of months and had yet to have lost a tooth. She would tell me who at school had lost one and that she was the only one who hadn't. Well she finally had a loose tooth to brag about. She was willing to have her Dad pull it. So he proceeded to pull it with little complaint from her. When he was done I told him that that wasn't the one that was ready. So she let him pull the other one that was ready. Anyway, she was thrilled and excited that she was twice richer. This was just after him pulling it with a smile and everything.

Funny Story

So when I went to pick up the kids, Leena got in and I noticed that she had something on her lip. I thought maybe she took a pen and dotted on a mustache. When we got home I was able to inspect it better. I always think of crazy possibilities, like what disease would cause her to have this on her lip. I realized I was being silly and asked her if she, by chance had sucked on a bottle. It looked like a bruise and the only way I thought she could get it is if she had sucked on a bottle hard with her lip on the inside. I remember doing silly things like that as a kid. Sure enough I was right. I could stop laughing about it so I had to take a picture. She had to sport this dashing mustache for a few days. The picture doesn't do it justice.

The World Of Princess

Thanks to some great friends, I was able to take my girls to see Disney on Ice. I wanted to take my camera, but I already had to lug my baby in the rain and I didn't want to carry the whole bag (I know....excuses). So this is the picture I took for the day. We had a blast! Happy to report that my little man is recovering well from the dreaded

RSV. He was such a trooper. Had to poke him a couple of times though, which is always so hard to watch.

After I shot this picture it made me think of the character band aids that I refuse to buy. If I did buy them they would ask for a band aid for a bruise or anything that gave them the slightest twinge. I guess I may be what my son was repeating after he received a punishment the other day, "mean".:)

I bought this statue for a friend that lost her beautiful baby boy just before he entered this world. I wanted to take a picture of it before we sent it off. Their pain is unimaginable to me. I can't hardly stand to think about what if, or what would I do. I think they have been so strong and amazing through the whole process, although I am sure many tears have been shed. With my new little one here, it makes me want to hug all my little ones much more and cover them with kisses. I hope they know that our thoughts and prayers have been with them. So I would like to say this photo is inspired or rather dedicated to all those who have lost littles ones at all stages and ages. I love my forever family.

New Sheriff In Town

That's what her class calls the student of the week, The New Sheriff In Town. She was so excited. We had to put a picture of her favorite pet on her poster and since we don't have a live pet she chose her favorite stuffed pet. Did you know it's a pillow, it's a pet, it's a pillow pet? I hated those things and vowed I wouldn't own one. But when her only wish for Christmas was a Pillow Pet, I had to allow Santa to bring it.

365 - I Did It

Dealing with a blessing, company, everyday goings on, sick kids, and now a very sick newborn, I have neglected to post my last picture for my 365 Challenge. Well here it is. This was a difficult challenge, but very enjoyable and I feel I have learned a lot about photography as well as myself and my many layers. I thought that this picture shows my most important layer, my family.I love the man that helps me take care of these kids and forever loves me as love him. My world would be so different and not nearly so pleasant without them. My family is everything to me and I started this challenge with a picture of them and I will finish it with the same. I thank them for all their patience and love during everything and their loving support on this challenge. And so I end this years challenge and thank all who may have enjoyed it with me. I will continue so please check back. It just may not be as often.

Still no one got me a calendar for Christmas. It is an on going joke in the family because when people ask what I want, I am very practical and ask for things like a calendar. I like a calendar on my wall to track mine and my families goings on. If someone else gets it for me that means I don't have too. So that, to me is a great gift. No one thinks so, so instead I get it myself. So here it is, the switch-over to 2011. May it be a humdinger of a year.

359 - Ekadamy Awards Night

The lovely Jillian (as Sherlock Holmes) put on a Murder Mystery for everyone for New Year's. It was a movie star awards show and I was none other than the Paparazzi capturing shots of everyone as they walked down the red carpet in their finest. The Rib Eye dinner was delicious and the entertainment was, well entertaining. All participated and had a great time. I would love to have you do it again next year, Jilly. So I totally thought it would be so easy to have a photo shoot all the time with my new in house baby model. Well, it isn't so easy. The holidays, siblings, chores, sleep, feeding, plain lack of motivation, basically life gets in the way. I had so many plans and ideas running in my head. But all of the above proved to be more important. I have gotten some adorable pictures of him, but not enough to satisfy me and he is passed the moldable and sleep during a tornado stage which proves to be more difficult to hold in a pose. I will have to settle with what I have. I came across this hat on another photographers website and she was so kind to share where she got it. Next time I think the best idea is to hire out. I would love to hire Skye. She is awesome and so nice to share her findings with others. I will post more of his adorableness on my photography site in the next little while.

I had to share the thoughts of my oldest. With the arrival of our newest addition, there have been many questions and discussions on babies and our bodies. He was explaining how neat he thought it was that a Mother is the soul nourishment of a baby and that our bodies are quite amazing. He said about nursing, that it was like buying a toy and getting an action figure for free as a bonus. Well I can see his logic and thought it was so cute but I wouldn't have thought of it that way. I guess because we "bought" the baby and we get free food/mild for the baby as the "bonus".I love seeing into the minds of my kids.
